Give Me Space- Final Piece

After weeks of work, here is my typography poster final. It will be about 20x30 when it is fully printed. Based off of Star Wars and my own love of space, I tried to include everything from comets to craters. the more you look. the more detail you should see. The letters are layered with goodness knows how many layers of blur, making it look like a glow. I wanted it to look like neon tubes wrapped around the letters.

Final typeface

My final typeface which I called Artist Block. It was inspired my Tetris and old fashioned video games. Started with the original type that I posted a while back and added colored pixels. I defined the lines and turned the negative space into a dark gray.

Typeface

So far I've made three different types of fonts in three different styles. The first is a brush tool that i wanted to look like a Far East style. The theme i wanted for this type face was the Far East and old.
The second one I created with the pen tool. I wanted to make it look like it came out of a video game, so I added the dots. The theme I wanted for this one was blocky and linear. The final one was a font a freehanded with the calligraphy brush tool. I wanted it to look medieval and classic.

The Blonde Squad

A quick little side project that took two days. I used the grid and lined up dozens of screen shots. The body is made of one photo from a Marilyn Monroe picture. Her facial features are from a different photograph from the Big Sexy Hair campaign. And finally, her hair is from another photograph which was originally black and white and some pieces from the previous photo. Some pieces like her lips, nose, chin, and parts of her shoulders are from several different photographs that are not of Marilyn Monroe at all. The emphasis is most on her, but mostly her red lips. I left the background plain black because most of her original photos were taken with a plain background, and it contrasts her figure, which is mostly pale and white.

Book Project (complete set)

Here, finally, is the final set of pictures that are in my Digital Design book. The first photo is the cover of the book. It's inspired by Oz and the yellow brick road. I went with the title "Force of Nature" because the theme that goes through all the works is nature and the future. All the works inside are inspired by holograms, high-tech computers and crisp lines. Then, I incorporated nature into the works, both human nature (the need for beauty, overthinking, love etc.) and nature in the physical world (rain, starlight, and so on).

Page 1: Patterns
Inspired by textures found in nature, the beauty humans can see in nature, and the complexity of the internet. Everything in the web is connected in some way. I hand made each pattern, and layered them to make dots look like sand, and C's to look like wood grain., and so on. I connected it all together with varying line thicknesses. The background are birds in flight with a doppler effect patter I made.

Page 2: Gradients
I purposely left out nature in this piece. In Romantic literature, a lack of nature symbolizes confusion and the loss of goodness. The human nature in this piece is overthinking, symbolized in the static. I drew the "Golden Ratio" face with a pen tool, and added complex patterns that had a gradient to make it more intense and confusing. I'm an artist, and my mind is always working  on the next project, so I added in the paint strokes to put myself more in the piece.

Page 3: Words
This one was really easy to make. When people have bad days, all that seems to be around you is hate ( the rain is actually all Yo Mama jokes, nothing REALLY mean). The umbrella is also all words. I layered words over and over again until it was all black, and then added the comforting words on top in white. The hologram boy ( there's the futuristic part ) says "Good Day" layered over and over again.

Page 4: Lines
Everything I made using only the line tool. To make the buildings I made really thick large lines in black, and the lights are small white lines. The sound waves are just white lines that I altered with the wrinkle tool. I wanted these lines to look like the city is alive with noise, even at night. The background are triangles I made, the wrinkles, puckered, and roughened them until almost everything was blacked out. I used a similar process for the stars. I hand drew 9 sided shapes, and puckered them  until I was happy with the shape. I made a thick, gray version, then layered the thin white ones on top. The stars are dimmer than the rest of the whites on the page- the real nature pales to the humans.

I will be uploading some pictures of the 3-D version of the book soon. :)

Patterns Project

The far background is difference types and texture of grass, which I made grayscale. I made it a pattern and applied it to the background. The second layer is a wave, which I made back and white. I also changed the opacity so the grass field can show through. I made the wave a 3x3 pattern, and made it super compacted and layered. On top is the 'sundress'. I took an image of a real sunflower and deleted the background, image traced it so it only contained 6 colors, and layered them really close. I applied that pattern to an image of a dress.

Beginning of line project for Electronic Design. The piece swirls from the corner outward, and is in motion. Inside each blank area, there are smaller design that hold weight and motion. There the starting of some depth with the dark, thick lines, and the thinner light lines. It's still a work in progress, but I'd like the piece to have more depth and some more textures.
